What’s New at Acorn Village!
Can you believe it is over 2 years since we locked our site down to the public because of COVID 19!
It feels like both yesterday and a lifetime ago that life turned upside down at Acorn Village.
After a very challenging 2 years , I am pleased to say that we are looking towards the future and getting back to our Motto – Life is for Living!
Sadly this virus has not gone away and we must continue to balance the measures that keep people safe alongside ensuring that life is not restricted unnecessarily. We would like to thank our dedicated staffing teams, volunteers, families and supporters for their patience and understanding whilst we have navigated these uncertain times.
Our Coffee Shop is now open to the public, Monday to Friday 9.30 till 4 and we are enjoying seeing familiar and new faces. If you would like to book a table or organise a trip over to see us, please contact us on 01206 394124 or just call in. As the weather gets warmer, the walled garden is a perfect place to enjoy some food, a coffee and take in the beautiful and colourful gardens.
Some of you will remember the large and rather cobwebby furniture store. With the help of government grants and donations we are extremely excited to launch The Strover Centre. A multi functional space including a fully accessible bathroom, shower and kitchen. We plan to use the centre for a multitude of activities including for social opportunities, life skills learning as well as supporting ongoing COVID measures such as testing and safe visiting. We will be launching our official fundraising project shortly with an aim that we can raise enough money to make the finishing touches and plan to open in May 2022.
Alongside this we are in the process of making the last few tweaks before we reopen our on site charity shop. This will mean we have two shops, onsite and in the Manningtree High Street bringing in much needed funds from the sales of donated goods.
We are currently recruiting for two roles within our management team. A Fundraising and Communications Manager and a Facilities Manager. Please see our Vacancies section for more info!
We are so grateful for the ongoing support we receive and during these uncertain times, we have greatly appreciated kind and generous financial donations. Whether it be a one off amount or a regular standing order, you can be reassured that your money is making a difference to the lives of adults with learning disabilities and helping us to continue our day to day activities.
In addition to this, we have been extremely lucky to welcome new volunteers to our existing team and as we look to expand our retail space, we would love to increase this team. If you or somebody you know, are interested please contact us via the website, on supportus@acornvillages.com or call on 01206 394124.
Our supporters are our greatest champions and if you are using social media and do not already follow us, we are on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram so there is something for everyone! By following us and sharing our news and updates, you are helping us spread the word about the charity and increase our supporter base.
We wish you all a peaceful Easter and look forward to updating you again soon
