Isolating in the garden with an activity pack

Life in Lockdown

Here’s the second part of a selection of ‘Life in Lockdown’ blogs from inside Acorn Village, thank you to all of our wonderful carers, volunteers and Acorn VIP’s for sharing their challenges and fears throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.

Firstly let me say on behalf of all the team we are missing everyone so much!

Since we went into lockdown at Acorn on the 16th March life has been very different in the Creative Craft Centre. From the hustle, bustle, noise, laughter and banter to sometimes complete silence and no radio on!
Although we have no residents, tenants or outside clients to work with we have been keeping very busy.

Our main aim has been to prepare and arrange activities and creative packs to give out to everyone. From sewing endless amounts of bunting, putting together ‘make your own scarecrow’ kits and creating fun and new activity packs, our days have been busy.
Everything we have done has been with the residents and tenants of Acorn Village in mind, often you can hear one of us say ‘I bet Harry would love that’ or ‘that’s a perfect activity for Leonie’ we have always had everyone in our thoughts. Each member of staff has had different targets to work towards and items to prepare.

Aside from creating bits and pieces for the residents we have been helping in the gardens when needed, I can safely say we are all a lot more green fingered now and can all name more than one type of flower and plant!

We have also been keeping in touch with our outside clients. Phone calls have been made, emails sent and deliveries of work have sent to help them through this hard time also. We are missing them also, I have had many messages from them to say hello and they look forward to seeing everyone soon.

The animals have also still needed daily care and attention, they are a source of entertainment to us! Hulk and Cinnamon are missing the attention from the residents and tenants though. Hulk has certainly got a lot more vocal!

Don’t forget if you have any ideas of things you would like us to try and prepare please give me a shout we will be more than willing to give it a go!

We just wanted to say thank you to all the staff at acorn, all the support workers and everyone behind the scenes. We feel very lucky to work in such a supportive and caring place.

Hopefully see you all soon for a big party once this is over!
